About This Item
1696 1ed Dutch van Dale on Idolatry & Superstition Devil Magic Prophecy BANNED
Antonius van Dale was a 17th-century Dutch preacher who is best remembered for his sermons and writings on superstitions, witch-hunts, and the supernatural. In 1696, Dale published his work 'Dissertations on the Origins of Idolatry and Superstitions'. In this book, Dale considered the nature of true and imitation prophecy according to the Old and New Testaments. He likewise sought to dismiss the influence of Satan and the existence of miraculous and supernatural events. Because of this, this piece of work was placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum in 1737.
This work was as well known to exist endemic and referenced by John Locke. (Harrison/Laslet 907a)
